Development of Human Potential - Music, it warms the heart and soothes the soul, perhaps even stimulates the mind. Recent research is now indicating that certain music can stimulate the cognitive part of the brain, especially high frequencies like the high violin parts of Mozart. It also can reduce stress and bring the body into a harmony with thinking patterns, says Don Campbell, classical musician, composer and author of many books on music and healing.

Selective Interval Delivery - Certainly, as multifetal pregnancies increase, (due primarily to the use of assisted reproductive treatments) there will undoubtedly be a rise in the unexpected birth of one or more siblings at extremely premature or previable states. It is a blessing to live in the day and age that selective interval delivery can be an option for these exceptional couples faced with such extreme circumstances.

Maternal Nutrition in Multiple Pregnancy - No subsequent treatment after a baby is born can make up for lack of a healthy prenatal environment!  In a high risk pregnancy, it is the one thing that is in your total control. Good nutrition is the most vital, proactive step you can take toward a good outcome in your pregnancy. My research the last two years has been directed toward reducing preterm labor and increasing birth weight of multiples.

Prematurity, Is it Preventable? - Prematurity is the single most important problem with multiple births, occurring ten times more often than with singletons. About half of all twins and three-quarters of triplets are born before the thirty-seventh week of pregnancy.

Predictions & Treatment of Preterm Labor - Early diagnosis of multiples, additional ultrasounds, bedrest, working outside the home, exercise, stress levels, and the use of tocolytic drugs (drugs to stop preterm labor contractions) should ideally be discussed with your obstetrician on your initial visit or interview. Good communication and clear explanations should be given to all your questions. It is also important that you feel comfortable with the office staff, whom you may call with questions throughout your pregnancy. All of these items will help optimize your chances of getting term, healthy babies.

Pregnancy Attitude Affects Outcome - In order to be compliant with your doctor's prescription for bedrest, it requires quite an "investment" in your pregnancy. If you have other children in the home to care for, it may mean hiring someone for some extra help, or soliciting the help of neighbors, other family members, or members of your congregation if you belong to a particular church. It definitely can add extra stress on you and your family. Good communication between you and your partner are essential during this time.

Preterm Signs & Symptoms - Learning and knowing the signs and symptoms of preterm labor is very important for moms expecting multiples. You must be keenly aware of your body to be aware of the subtle changes that can take place, signaling the onset of preterm labor.
